Department of Public Health Dentistry, organizes oral health programmes for delivering comprehensive oral health care and health education to various sections of the society and form partnerships with external agencies for improving oral health of the community.

We engage students in health education activities like development of health education material, communicating and interacting with various sections of the society and tobacco cessation counselling.

We provide high quality & ethical comprehensive oral health care to the patients with emphasis on prevention. We promote research in the field of Public Health Dentistry.

Message from the Head of Department

Department of Public Health Dentistry creates and provides rich learning experience to the students through clinical case discussions and treatment, visits to peripheral centers, field visits, project assignments, seminars and regular didactics to the students. Innovative methods of learning are being implemented to enrich the process of learning. Emphasis is placed on activity based learning and active learning.

World No Tobacco Day Celebration at Al Azhar Dental College – 31.05.2025

Al Azhar Dental College observed World No Tobacco Day on May 31, 2025, with a series of awareness activities. The event commenced at Mangatukavala Bus Stand, where the Guest of Honour, Mr. N.S. Roy, Sub-Inspector of Thodupuzha, officially flagged off the program.

A Mini Marathon was organized as part of the awareness campaign, with nearly 100 participants running from Mangatukavala Bus Stand to the Al Azhar Dental College portico. Upon arrival, all participants were provided with refreshments.

The formal function began with the Principal’s Address delivered by Dr. Vinod Kumar R B, followed by the Chairman’s Address by K.M. Moosa Sir, who shared his insights and experiences related to World No Tobacco Day. Mr. Thajudeen, AO , Al Azhar Group of Institutions also gave his views on World No Tobacco day 

An Anti-Tobacco Pledge was led by Dr. Joby Paulose, Head of the Department of Orthodontics, and was taken by the management, students, staff, and faculty members.

As a highlight of the event, Dr. Agna was felicitated by Chairman Dr. K.M. Moosa for her outstanding achievement of securing 17th rank in the All India NEET MDS Exam 2025.

The program also featured a mime performance by second-year students, highlighting the dangers of tobacco use. This was followed by a group dance performance by interns, adding a cultural touch to the event.

The event concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Prijitha Alex, Head of the Department of Public Health Dentistry, and ended on a patriotic note with the National Anthem.

Monsoon diseases prevention campaign was officially inaugurated at Alzhar Dental College in collaboration with the Family Health Centre (FHC), Kumaramangalam. The event was graced by Smt. Grazy Thomas, President of Kumaramangalam Panchayat, who formally launched the initiative.

Dignitaries present on the occasion delivered informative talks on communicable diseases and vector control, aiming to raise public awareness. As part of the campaign, inspections were conducted in the hostel and surrounding areas to help prevent the spread of communicable diseases.
